Go for Gmail is the best and most powerful Gmail desktop client. It's perfect for quickly accessing your Gmail account without ever needing to open a web browser.
The app is fully feature packed and built for speed and ease of use. Sticklen, I love this app. I have used Apple Mail for my mail client well forever. But with Sierra I am having more and more trouble with mail.
I am sure the Apple Mail problems will get worked out, but I went to try GO for GMAIL because I am so frustrated with Apple Mail currently. My business mail is all on GMAIL, but I have a personal email with some volume on Apple Mail. Of course, Apple Mail can access different types of mail accounts, including iCLOUD-based email and Google-based email. I have found it up to now to be functional.
But GO for GMAIL Is soooooo much faster, clearner, than Apple Mail that I am thinking seriously of looking to find a way to do all my email via this app. Two things stopping me: 1) not sure if there is an iOS app that is “like” this app (from the same company would be nice 2) (the biggie) I need this app to be able to connect to iCloud as well as Google. Might be a stretch to get Apple to approve that through the App Store Then again, Apple would themselves (and their loyal customers) a GoodThing if they would just buy the company that does GO for GMAIL, disassemble and understand it, then redo it from the ground up to handle multiple email server types. (Unless the “company” is Google ) I like this app very much just wish that it could accept email feeds from the iCloud servers.

Midshipman1321, Great, just one thing I love using the Go for Gmail app because I have to stay on top of my emails all the time and it’s better to have a temporary window that can pop up when you need it versus having it always open in the browser tab.
The one thing I would suggest to make it better is to allow the tracking of more than one email. With the browser, I can sign into my business and university email and get notifications for both whenever one comes in. With the Go for Gmail app, however, I have to switch back an forth manually between my emails and don’t get notifications for the other if I’m not opened to it but am signed in. If I don’t get notifications, I miss time sensitive events and deadlines. Long story short, allow for notifications for more than one email. Otherwise, great work!

Keyboard Shortcutter, Great for desktop notifications, almost flawless as stand alone app I downloaded this app simply to get desktop notifications for Gmail. Gmail has a setting for that, but the notification does not make sound and disappears after a few seconds. I was surprised by the app interface and liked it a lot, but it had one small problem. Whenever you hit the “g” key it triggers the mac error tone. This can get very annoying when you use the Gmail keyboard shortcuts as “g” is the key you use before navigating anywhere. I still use the app to send me notifications, but I continue to access Gmail through Safari.
Love the app, and whenever the creators get around to fixing this bug, it will be pretty much flawless. When you are logging into your Gmail account, it will ask you to grant permission to MIA For Gmail. Once connected, you should see the MIA Gmail icon lit up and showing the number of unread emails in your inbox. Clicking the icon will show a list of the emails in the drop-down window. It only shows the ten most recent emails from your Inbox. Clicking on any email will open it up in a separate window where you can read and delete/archive/reply. Preferences In the Preferences section, there are a few things that you can configure: Notification – Get notified for every incoming email.
This can be a disturbance if you have plenty of incoming emails every day. Open at login – This will make MIA for Gmail run every time you log in to your computer. Hide status mail counter – This will hide the unread count beside the MIA for Gmail icon. View only unread emails – Only display unread email in the drop-down list. Check every xx mins – You can configure how often the app checks your Gmail inbox.
Conclusion MIA for Gmail is a nifty app that allows you to manage your Gmail account(s) without a browser. It is not a complete replacement for your Gmail web account, as it doesn’t come with many of the useful features in Gmail like search your email, label sorting, etc. Also, it only displays the top ten emails in your Inbox, and there is no option to configure that which is rather disappointing. However, for those who can’t live without leaving their email inbox open, and yet still want to kick the habit of peeking into their Inbox every few minutes, this app is worth trying out.
