Adobe DNG Converter is a free utility that converts files from more than 75 cameras to Digital Negative (DNG), enables you to easily convert camera-specific RAW files to a more universal DNG RAW file. The converter is compatible for Mac OS X 10.7-10.9. There are a number of programs that can open.DNG files besides Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and Photoshop Elements. Google Picasa and ACDSee can handle this type of RAW file on both Windows and MAC operating systems.
In addition to the Digital Negative Specification, Adobe provides the free Adobe DNG Converter (Windows速 Mac OS), which easily translates raw files from many of today's popular cameras. Software developers and manufacturers can download the complete DNG Specification (PDF, 486k). DNG is supported by Adobe速 Photoshop速 CS6, CS5, CS4, CS3, CS2, and CS, as well as Photoshop Elements 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 4, 3. If you're keenly waiting the arrival of your preordered Pentax K-1 or Sony RX10 III - or you're just hoping to be able to process raw files from our reviews so you can decide whether to buy one - then there's good news for you from Adobe this week. It's just released updates to both Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and Camera Raw / DNG Converter adding support for both camera models and fixing a variety of bugs.
For Mac users, Camera Raw 9.5.1 is also of interest because it will be the last version to support the 10.7 (Lion) and 10.8 (Mountain Lion) releases. Should you wish to keep receiving updates with new camera support in the future, you'll have to upgrade to at least OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
And for good measure, there's also an update to Lightroom Mobile for iOS. So what has changed in each of the updated desktop apps? It's an unusually short list, given that Lightroom CC 2015 version 5.1, Lightroom 6.5.1 and Camera Raw 9.5.1 were last updated around two months back, meaning that the updates are arriving no earlier than their typical schedule. There are no new features beyond the added camera support. Bugs fixed in Lightroom CC 2015 5.1 and the perpetually-licensed Lightroom 6.5.1 are as follows:. Fixed problem of droplets not working as export actions. Fixed issues with incorrect folder permissions.
(.). Fixed missing EXIF lens name for some camera models.
(.). Focus is no longer lost in the keyword panel when navigating to the next image.
Error when merging to HDR or Panorama from a collapsed stack has been resolved. Dependencies on QuickTime for some video codecs on Windows have been removed after a that the Apple-provided software was no longer being updated, had multiple significant vulnerabilities, and should be removed from computers. For Camera Raw 9.5.1, meanwhile, the same issue with missing EXIF lens name data is resolved, as are two other bugs in the previous release. Camera Raw now launches properly under Mac OSX 10.7 and 10.8. Errors when using Camera Raw to tone HDR images from Photoshop and converting 32-bit files to 16 or 8-bit files have been resolved. OS X 10.11 El Capitan users on the Apple Mac platform and with an AMD graphics card may want to hold off on upgrading either Lightroom or Camera Raw, however, as there is an unresolved issue for both.
This can occur with the AMD 6450M and 6970M graphics cards, and possibly others too. (The release notes aren't entirely clear on this point.) It won't affect your images, but it may prove distracting as the screen can flicker during slider adjustment.
The issue can be worked around by disabling use of the graphics processor, but this is likely to degrade performance. Finally, Lightroom Mobile for iOS version 2.3 is available for both iPad and iPhone, and makes a few changes.
It now takes fewer steps to access and edit images from the Camera Roll, and custom sorting now works regardless of the grid sorting view in use. Adobe also notes that it has fixed a variety of bugs, some of them potentially able to cause crashes, but doesn't specify precisely what these problems entailed.
